It is with great sorrow and sadness that the Carson Family, CIEDEC, and the DEC Conference must inform you of the untimely passing of Dean Wm. Carson, President of Transit Sales International and Shuttle Bus Leasing of Riverside CA., member of CIEDEC, and chairman of the DEC Conference Sponsorhip Committee. Mr. Carson, an experienced pilot, passed away as a result of an accident involving his single engine airplane during his daily commute to his residence in Big Bear, California. CIEDEC and the DEC Conference planning committee extend their deepest symphaty to Mr. Carson's family and friends. His positive attitude and hard working character left an unvoidable space in the heart of all of those who met him. Mr. Carson will be missed tremenfously, especially by CIEDEC and the DEC Conference Planning Committees.

Memorial Foreword

As I sit here in front of my laptop searching for memories about the enigma we all know as Dean William Carson my head is filled with a plethora of Dean visions. Mostly all good, I personally enjoyed Dean best when he became enraged about some topic or issue he was passionate about, which after his family it was usually buses or being frugal with his money.

Dean was a fierce and passionate competitor when it came to the topic of buses. I first noticed that in the spring of 2005 when I first met him. (Ironically, he flew me to Big Bear for a breakfast/job interview - he was particularly fond of flying to Big Bear.) He personally whisked me around the Riverside grounds in a golf cart. As he dodged around the multitude of closely packed buses he told me how these blighted looking beauties could be resuscitated and be made once again into a valuable transportation asset. A few days after our Big Bear meeting, Dean called to make me an offer, which at the time I respectfully declined.

We stayed in touch and a year later I accepted his offer and joined the Carson family. The mission was clear, support Dean’s efforts to increase sales revenue. Over time I too began to see the diamonds in the rough that our sea of buses are and dedicated myself to the business of reviving buses.

Over the years that followed Dean and I developed a unique business relationship that I believe mutually changed us. Dean and I complemented each other and I would like to think that he rubbed a little of himself off on me and I on him.

Dean leaves us during the best of times, we should always remember him as the kinetic person he was, always going and always looking for the next deal, while ever keeping his family as the spark that motivated him.

He will always be my boss and my friend.
